Kidde Hardwired Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detector, 10-Year Battery Backup, Voice Alerts, Interconnectable LED Warning Light Indicators

These Kidde brand hardwired combo smoke/carbon monoxide detectors look great and were easy to install as replacements for old hardwired smoke/carbon monoxide detectors. They come with ten-year warrantied backup batteries, so no additional ones are needed. I purchased a four-pack, which is the exact number I needed, so they were much less expensive than I thought they would be. I highly recommend them!

What I can't evaluate is how well these work since we haven't set anything afire since I put these up. And I'd prefer to keep it that way.Was replacing our should-have-been-replaced-long-ago original smoke detectors and got 2 of these--one for the basement and one for upstairs. The voice feature seems to be a gimmick until you realize if the alarm does go off, the voice announcement will make it much easier to know if you have a fire or a CO alarm.The detectors I was replacing were Firex with a different quick-connect. There are adapters available and I did use those. Unfortunately, those adapters were made to go vertically into the back of the detector, and on these particular ones the connector kind of nestles in horizontally. However... a few snips to remove some excess plastic and the connectors worked fine.The other 5 detectors I replaced were Kidde smoke (not CO) detectors. When pressing the test button on those, these detectors would also go off and announce "fire!". So interoperability within the Kidde family seems to work fine. Yay!Note that these have a permanent 10-year battery and at the end of 10 years (apparently which is tracked via a timer?) the alarm will start going off at 30 second intervals, requiring you to remove it and permanently disable it to drain the battery and shut it up. Again, having had these up for days, not 10 years, I can't say for sure exactly how that works. And most detectors these days, even some with replacable batteries, apparently will similarly self-expire after 10 years. To be fair that may be good: when I replaced the ~20 year old detectors, some would barely beep when tested, and a few had batteries that apparently had expired without any notification to us. (All had had batteries replaced some multiple times over their lifetime though.)

The item is made of good quality. I really like it. Very simple to install If you already have the wiring done. Don’t be deceived by the quantity on the box. It’s only one and not two as shown on the box.

I just had these combo C02/Smoke alarms installed and Handyman said installation was straightforward and testing showed alarms are in proper working order. I bought these as the yearly change of batteries is tough for a middle aged woman who lives alone with high ceilings in my townhome and my old smoke alarms did not have the C02 detection. A neighbor just had a C02 leak due to her HVAC unit malfunctioning and that conversation woke me up to the danger. I cannot speak to whether or not these alarms will last 10ys or if the battery will last the life of the units. If this turns out to be untrue, I would not purchase these units in the future due to the cost. Hopeful that the claims made by the manufacturer is correct…I guess I’ll see in April 2035. I will continue to purchase these alarms if all goes according to manufacturer claims.

Purchased as replacement. Our current ones reached the end of their life. Easy to replace! When one goes off they all do. You have to press the button to shut off the alarm if you set it off frying bacon. They are very sensitive to smoke and steam from the bathroom. Not sure on the internal battery life because I haven’t had them long enough to test that.

After being awakened by our combo CO/Smoke detector in the middle of the night, this is the perfect replacement. We couldn't tell if the alarm was sounding for CO or smoke; 3:00 AM is not the time to go searching for a manual. It very clearly tells you what it's for. Also purchased for an elderly tenant who has mobility issues, gives us, the tenant and her family extra peace of mind.

I was sick of my alkaline battery Kidde units chirping every year, invariably when I was traveling. My wife HATED that. These new Kidde are powered units with lithium battery backup. Still, I had to replace the wiring harness becuase they didn't match the old units. It was all pretty easy. Also, I feel like they are less prone to false alarms. The one near the kitchen used to go off frequently. The new one has not sounded once during cooking.

Built in 10 year battery. Yes, please!
