Note: I bought these exclusively to make nuoc mat, or Vietnamese herbal tea, so I can’t speak to how this works for anything else. I’ve heard that you can grind dried pandan for other applications but have not tried it.I am so pleased with how fragrant and flavorful these pandan leaves are! You can definitely smell it right out of the package, too—if you’re not familiar with pandan, it’s a staple flavor in Vietnamese cuisine and is best described as having a slightly vegetal vanilla flavor profile.I use about two tablespoons per pot of tea and it gives the nuoc mat I make a lovely subtle sweetness. The only downside is that the bag isn’t bigger—I’m on my second bag and will likely order a third, but I am using it literally every day. If you are more conservative or use it less frequently, you’ll probably get a good long run out of one bag.

Leaves are chopped up very small

Fresh is better of course, but when fresh is not available and frozen is also not available, then this dried version still works! I was skeptical, not sure if the dried pandan leaves would have the same effect as fresh or frozen. I only made one thing so far, had to boil the leaves for quite some time before the flavor came out. Love the smell!

So great for making Nasi Lemak rice!
