I am a retired mental health counselor. I am bipolar I and already on a lot of medication. I began to feel extremely depressed, crying all day, thoughts of suicide. I was on the verge of needing to go inpatient to the hospital for care. My doctor had been suggesting I try a SAD lamp for some time, and I never gave it much creedence. Finally, just to prove it wouldn't help me, I ordered this lamp based on the positive reviews. I initially began using the lamp for 1/2 hr a day with mixed results. My doctor suggested I increase the time to 1 hr daily, and that seemed to make a big difference for me.I have been using this lamp I'd guess around 3 weeks now. It took about a week for me to start noticing improvement. The one downside I've noticed is if I skip a day using the lamp, my mood suffers the following day. I do know some bipolar people who have reacted badly to SAD light therapy, resulting in agitation and hypomania, so if you are bipolar, I'd use the lamp with caution.I'm not saying I'm all happy, happy, joy, joy, but I'm not in bed crying all afternoon, I have fewer thoughts of death and dying or doing something rash to hurt myself. Not everything negative has gone away, but it's a lot more in the background and I no longer am at the point of needing hospitalization.On the positive side, my concentration reading has improved a great deal; reading was always one of my favorite hobbies, but I'd been able to focus less and less. I also reaquainted myself with an old hobby of mine - sketching, something I haven't done in over 20 years, and I'm enjoying it! I'm cooking some new recipes instead of sticking to the exact same 3 week dinner rota I've been using over a year. My family seems quite grateful for this. Some new recipes turn out, some don't, but you know, it's been okay with the ones that don't turn out. I haven't broken down over it like I would have in the past, just pulled out leftovers (which I have decided to have in stock whenever trying out a new meal). I've started baking chocolate chip cookies out of nowhere. If I could get around to cleaning, that would be great, but so far, little luck on that front.All in all, if you're suffering with depression, seasonal or not, I'd say this lamp is worth a try. This lamp cost me $35; the last time I had to go inpatient to a hospital, even with insurance, my hospital bill was $1200! So in that sense, it has been quite a money-saver.

My neighbor Loved this. She had a Big one that is really old. So I ordered this for her and she puts it right on her coffee table right by her. She loves that it sits right up and is more compact.

The Item arrived and I plugged it in and It works. Everything arrived as advertised and worked just fine. I have used it a couple times in the past week. As far as results it's to early to tell, and results can't be measure it's just based off feel. Definitely worth a shot if you battle depression especially winter time blues or working overnight. I am looking forward to getting more use and seeing improvements of mood. Remember to supplement with Vitamin D as well.

Very helpful for mood and sleep!Use first thing in the morning for 20-25 minutes. It helps to make you feel more alert also!

Works really well. Very bright and perfect for waking you up in the morning. White light gives me headaches, so I use sunglasses to protect my eyes.

bought this after a coworker brought it into work. I like the idea of this, since I feel like I get very down and out and sleepy when the sun doesn't shine for a couple of days - and that happens in MN. I would have rated higher although the stand that supports the light is cheap, in fact it broke. So now I have to prop it up in order for me to use it. Be aware it is VERY bright. So dont look into the light!
