JACO TreadPro Tire Tread Depth Gauge, Dial Type (Reads in 1/32")

I own 5 vehicles and decided to purchaes this item to confirm what the mechanic may state as my tire tread condition. This item works well, is well built and feels good on your hands when using...not a cheap feel at all, which sometimes is important for tools. I went with JACO since I own a tire pressure gauge that has been a total workhorse , whihc I have owned for years.This JACO tire tread depth guag e is easy to use and the bright dial with color as measurements decrease was helpful. As soon as the item arrived I measured the tires on all 5 vehicles and it worked perfectly. I also had no issues with calibration. After eash measurement, I simply placed the gauge on a flat surface, or for speed and eas of use, just used my finger to level the plunger so it would read zero after each use. If this product is like my other JACO product, this will last for years and is another great automotive tool to have on hand.

Simple, easy to use, easy to store, easy to read. I bought it to use on my car - but on a whim checked the mud tires on my truck and realized they needed replacing because they had ben run at too high of a pressure. I had 8mm left (of 17mm) on the edges - but the centers were only 2.5mm. Lessons learned - 1)Check your psi and your tread levels. 2) if you use quick oil change places that check your tires inflation for free - make sure they know your oversize tires to not go to the stock psi.

Good tool for measuring tire tread depth across the width to check for consistency due to under, proper, or over inflated tire. I was using a dial caliper yet requires clearance so had to position front or back of tire yet not the top as fenderwell interfered. The JACO TreadPro fits anywhere on the tire.The JACO TreadPro is easy to read. Depress the probe on top the gauge then position the probe into the tread. Push down until the gauge touches the tire.Placing the gauge onto a flat and smooth surface will check for zero indication. Depress the probe on top the gauge then push onto a flat surface. Depressing the probe on top 100% sweeps the needle 360 degrees.The pouch has a rubber JACO logo which is good protection. Face the lense forward towards the logo. The metal snap rivet is exposed inside the pouch. I keep the gauge in a small plastic bag to protect the lense from the rivet.

We used it on everything from sedans to lifted trucks.After the drop? Not so great.Unfortunately, it slipped off the workbench and hit the garage floor. After that, the dial needle was permanently stuck about ¼ inch forward and wouldn’t return to zero. That threw off all the measurements and made it unreliable. There was no visible damage, but something internal shifted out of alignment.Lesson learned: this tool works great—but handle it gently. It's more of a precision measuring tool than a rugged shop item.
