This book is a absolute masterpiece in showing what is possible on the knitting machine. Over 200 samples in different techniques along with tips and photos of how to carry out the techniques. Then further ideas through samples using different fibre types, stitch counts, combined with other techniques. Plus photos of Amber's stunning graduate pieces further showing ways that the techniques and fabric can be used by changing scale, placement on the body etc .. there are three beautiful patterns to try out some of the techniques in the book .The first a stretchy almost smocked top that could be extended into a fabulous dress. A comfy boxy jumper that I think is the simplest pattern and is full of texture through using fringing. This pattern in particular would look fabulous using a range of different techniques covered in the book, a real canvas for play. The final pattern is a lovely Japanese style knot bag to go with your beautiful garments and will again help solidify a variety of textural techniques as well as short row knitting and shaping.The thing that blows me away is that these techniques and samples are only the start!Add your own yarn choices, mix techniques together, add your own colour palette, change the density of techniques,use a different punch card,use unusual yarns,tapes, handspun and so many other effects can occur.I also recommend buying Amber's online courses, again full of techniques in easy to understand digestible videos that also comes with a zoom presentation that's been recorded. In this she goes through every single one of the videos and talks even more about the possibilities, showing more samples, answering technical questions.I am so fired up to learn how to use my machines now. And if you get stuck, just send her a email.Pretty much all the techniques will work with a variety of flatbed knitting machines even ones such as the Singer Designer 2, Singer Solo, and similar machines that don't have a punch card or tension mast. Techniques such as Manual Weaving, Manual tucks, E-Wrapping for making pictures, E-Wrapping loops for fringe, Attaching fabrics such as lace , pre eyelet fabric, knits onto the bed of the machine will all work.So do yourself a favour and treat your eyes ,machine and creativity to this book and check out her Beginners course, intarsia course, crew neck jumper course and all future online courses which are only £55 each and can be paid in installments.Thankyou Amber for firing up my creativity and lifelong learning of my flatbed knitting machine.

Came across this by accident. And boy am I pleased. If you are looking for patterns then this is not the book for you. But, if you are looking for a book that stretches the capability of the domestic knitting machine, then this is it. I would say you need to know your wat around a machine, but the techniques are fabulous and open up so many possibilities. A great buy and well worth the money.

This is a beautiful book with lots of unusual ideas and full of information.

I am a Knit Textiles student. This book has been invaluable in helping me think about various ways in approaching my module projects, through machine knitting techniques. This may not be a total beginners book as it is more about forming shape and texture, development of knitted textiles through yarns, needle layouts, etc. However, I think it's worth investing in alongside watching YouTube and even purchasing Amber Hards machine knitting beginners online workshop. University degree unfortunately do not invest enough in technical knowledge, I would be lost without this book. One of the best modern machine knitting books currently out there.Thank you Amber

If you are looking for a book to explain the basics of machine knitting then this is probably not the book for you. If you are looking for a book to inspire you to try new techniques. To stretch your thinking about the textiles and fabrics it is possible to create with a knitting machine and to show you how to create beautiful fabrics using machine knitting combined with other techniques then this is a great resource.

Amazing book, really clear step by step photos and some really cool textured samples in there to learn from! The book itself is really nice quality paper with clear and vivid images. An exciting and modern addition to my machine knitting book collection, would fully recommend!
