I had liked this lamp instantly upon seeing it on Amazon. I was a little concerned about a comment someone made about how difficult it was to get out of the box. I had no problems with that. It was a HEAVY package and I had a little trouble getting it up over the threshold (about 4" up). It scooted onto the entry rug fine.I wondered where the larger drum shade might be - it's actually something that has to be assembled. The larger shade is rolled, wrapped and boxed. It requires the 2 hoops and "snapping" the shade onto the hoops (upper and lower). Be sure to match the seam (velcro) of the larger shade with the already assembled smaller drum shade. The smaller shade is assembled. I had to think a little bit about securing the shade to the lamp. There's a black/textured ring against the socket where the bulb will be inserted. That ring unscrews, place the lamp shade then return the ring to the socket base and secure it by turning it until it stops.Someone had mentioned their frustration with the location of the switch (which is a foot switch). It is located on the power cord (about 22" from the base) and depending on where you place the lamp, the switch might be something you have to turn on before sitting down. Since I use the lamp for hours at a time, it's not a problem for me to get up and turn it on/off. The length of the power cord from the plug end to the power switch is about 40" (I didn't unplug it to measure it.)I ended up extending/lowering the shade probably to its full extent so the bulb doesn't get in my vision when I'm sitting by the lamp.The instructions are pretty thorough, except where I got lost on the previously mentioned need to secure the shade to the socket area. Turns out, I should've had my glasses on! (I just looked at the instruction/picture.) There's an arrow pointing to the ring.Although someone made a comment about the height of the bottom of the drum shade, it measured just as indicated on the details here on Amazon. I positioned the lamp base quite a bit away from my seating area in order to obtain the best position of the lamp for moving about "under" it. The back of the pole for the lamp is about 57" (on the diagonal) from the "corner" the two loveseats create. The bottom of the drum shade is about 60" above the floor.I really love this lamp and am very happy with it. So far, others really like it too.

I’m a diffused light person and this gives off a relaxing warm glow but it’s not so dim that you can’t read under it. Hefty marble base and solid finishes. I wish the shade had a fabric disc underneath to diffuse light even more and hide the bulb/socket but that’s my only complaint. I have it plugged into an outlet that’s controlled by a wall switch. The foot switch is fine but would be hard to access where I have it. Not a smokin deal but not overpriced.

If I could I would have 3.5 stars overall because of a glitch in my help desk experience.My wife likes to use a floor lamp for extra lighting to knit while sitting on the couch, and it was time to replace our old lamp that I was never fond of. After searching for styles and function we we settled on this lamp from Brightech (BT). We also like to support small business and this filled that interest as well. Additionally, BT has earned many strong ratings on Amazon which supported our purchase decision.We bought this lamp as a "used-like new" item from Amazon. We have to date been satisfied with the cost-value of several purchases this way.Our only disappointment about this purchase is we received it with missing washers for assembly; complicating that, the assembly instructions were unclear about whether there is only one washer or two washers needed. The confusion is in the enclosed assembly instructions: There is a specific illustration clearly showing to install a washer on the underside of the floor base, and that washer is included in the parts list - albeit without size specs that some furniture instructions include. There is another illustration that suggests that a second washer is to be placed on the top of the floor base, but it is not clearly enlarged or highlighted as was the other and it is not included in the parts list. But I figured the fix should be a pretty simple. I was willing to spend a couple bucks to pick up a washer or two at a local hardware store - my reasoning is a couple missing washers is not reason enough to repack the whole thing for a return, and me picking up basic washer(s) would be a quicker fix rather than wait for someone to send me the washers. But I first needed to verify if a second washer was needed, its size and that of the listed washer. I found reaching out to BT to be less helpful than I expected based on the plethora of good reviews. As a small company they only provide email-based assistance. Responses to most of my messages were same day (west coast location and I am midwest), but incomplete. It took a few days of email exchanges to get one answer at a time on separate days. Assistance was further delayed by the BT help desk requesting my Amazon order number and subsequently saying they could not provide warranty support (which would only be answering my 2 questions) because they could not confirm my order number and they incorrectly presumed this lamp was probably sourced by a third party and shipped by Amazon. Eventually the BT help desk gave me the size for the bottom washer of the floor base. And after I inquired yet again the next day I got a message that they had updated the assembly process to now use a washer on the top of the base.Make no mistake, this product is attractive, functional and seems quite good overall making it a good value. I suspect the information delay challenge I had with their help desk may be a blip of occasional human error.

Update: nearly two years later and this lamp continues to be fantastic! We have a 60lb American Bully that regularly gets the zoomies, tearing around the living room, disrupting *everything*, but this lamp just stays standing, even with direct hits.We did replace the lampshade, but only to match our decor, there was nothing wrong with itIt also still looks great and works flawlessly. One of our all-time favorite purchases!Original review:I was concerned about this lamp given the relatively low price point, but this thing is *fantastic*.It's very heavy (in a good way) and solidly built. The marble base is big, round, heavy, and stable.The lampshade takes a bit of assembly but nothing too difficult, and its layered structure is very interesting.We put a smart bulb in it that connects to Smart Things/Google so we can control it.It sits behind the corner of our sectional and we can swing it to the right, left, and middle (or anywhere in between) as needed.We just set it up so I can't report on long term use but given the quality of construction and materials I'm very optimistic. Highly recommended.
