Fantastic for a great nights sleep

This is an amazing cooler on hot sticky days and nights, used a lot since buying with perfect results. Very easy to use, looks nice and whilst a quite heavy to put away in the loft in winter it has been a life saver for a comfortable sleep. Wouldn't be without one now. You pay for what you get so whilst some may thick its expensive you really can't compare to the old fashion fans that just blow hot air around your room. this not only sucks out hot air but pumps lovely cool air down to 16 degrees. Noise level is ok, can be noisy of full speed but small price to pay.

Cools a medium sized room with sleep timer

Does the job and looks quite neat. Heavy to carry upstairs but has roller castors. Needs to be next to a window-the venting kit works but needed to make some additional cardboard barriers to seal my casement window properly. Remote control with sleep timer function useful to set to switch off the unit after 1 or more hours-whilst going to sleep for example. A bit noisy even on lower fan speed- but I guess all a/c units are. Uses about 2kw/hour-around 50p hour on standard tariff. Cools a large size room quite quickly. Haven't tried the de-humidifying function. Glad I bought it each time we have a heatwave!

Third year of use!

I'm slow to review products like this one, simply because its impossible to tell their quality jver time when you first purchase them. However!Having just set it up this year, for its third year of use, I'm happy to say its still working just as well as when I first bought it.Overall, love this thing. It's my 10 y/o black labradors best friend, he loves napping in the cool air stream. And it's made the last two years summer heat spikes so much more bearable, and its now doing the same for this year too!Its pretty noisy, but thats to be expected as far as I'm concerned. No home AC unit is going to give you an absolutely silent room. But it's no issue for me, my sleep remins uninterupted by it.The window vent is a bit flimsy, so I used some padding and such to improve the seal with the window and frame. All good.It cools my room down in a matter of minutes. I like to turn it on before the room heats up to maintain a cooler temperature when able since I find this more efficient. But it can take it from, say, 24 down to 20 no problem.Sometimes have a little battle of wills with getting the cooling system to start after it's been turned off for ¾ of a year. But I can't really blame it for not wanting to wake up.I can't say I really use the timer, as I just turn it off and on as I feel is necessary. But it's a good size, not too big. And it does just exactly what I want it to. I cant claim to have stored it away meticulously, either. But its pretty easy to take the filter panels off to clean the dust and such. All in all I'm extremely happy with this, and for now 3 years of cooler sleeping conditions in summer it was very worth the price in my opinion.

Finally comfortable at home during heatwaves!

This has truly been a lifesaver, for both me and my pets! I honestly don’t know why I didn’t buy it sooner. It’s powerful, cooling down the entire room in just five minutes. The window kit fits perfectly and was easy to install. Some people mention it’s noisy, but I personally don’t find it excessive. I’d much rather enjoy a cool, comfortable home than worry about a bit of background noise. My dog and cat are clearly more relaxed, and we no longer dread coming back to a hot apartment after being outside. If you have a larger home, you might need a second unit, but in my small flat, it cools the living room, hallway, and bedroom effortlessly. I couldn’t be happier!

Great performance - But would only recommend with a dual hose conversion

Edit as of 01/08/2024:It's not been the hottest summer so far in Britain, but my top floor, double aspect flat has definitely been feeling the brunt of it. However I can gladly say that this aircon with the dual hose conversion has worked wonders. As stated below I cannot speak to how this unit functions with a single hose, but I'd expect performance to be considerably worse especially when the outside temperature, or temperature in other rooms is greater than the temperature in the room you're cooling. Out of protest of single hose air con I'm not changing the star rating on the review, although I would highly recommend this air con at the currently reduced price of £200 (I thought I was smart getting one before the summer season, turns out the price dropped £70 since I bought it!) IF planning on carrying out a similar conversion as I didYou may still be able to find other units at slightly more expensive prices that have better accessibility and features. I have still not been able to open up the unit which brings some concerns for maintenance.Furthermore, the features are a bit lacking, there is no heating function which is technically not that difficult to achieve with an AC unit (that's what a heat pump is), also the sleep function doesn't actually reduce the sound of the fan, it turns off the lights on the unit (basically useless).I wouldn't recommend AC as a dehumidifier, get a dedicated unit for that, but it does dehumidify the room noticeably, but has never shut off due to overfilling. (I believe the water drops down over the condenser which helps cool it as well as evaporate through the hot air tube, this would likely only be an issue when not using dual hose).More notably I've had issues with the thermostat, I leave the unit at 24c target but as far as I can tell the room is getting much cooler than this yet the compressor seems to switch off only extremely rarely. I tend to just turn it off manually every now and again when I'm getting too cold. I can't say for certain this isn't related to the dual hose conversion, but I don't think it should be, as the temperature probe is clearly on the evaporator side of the radiator, possibly it's getting heated by the sun or there is another probe somewhere. In terms of running costs, I've had the unit plugged into a smart plug. It uses about 880W of power when the compressor is on the speed is on low, and 900W when it's on high. If you can stand the noise, then always leave it on high, as the benefit of increased airflow on the condenser will outweigh that slight power increase. How long you want to run it will change how much this actually costs you, but leaving it on for a large amount of the day will usually cost me about £1-£2, at current energy cap rates.Let me preface this review by saying that there is still a very poor understanding of the technology of air conditioning in the UK and it's disappointing that the only units you can get without importing in this country are these single hose portable AC units.I would urge anyone considering buying an AC unit to do some research into how they work (although this is a big ask), however, in summary, single hose portable AC units are incredibly inefficient at the job they need to do. This is due to the INTAKE air which is used to cool the condenser being pulled from INSIDE the room, then pushed out the exhaust. This removal of air results in the room being a lower pressure than the outside, which naturally wants to equalise and therefore will suck warm air from the outside in through every non-airtight opening in your room. This results in an AC unit that is constantly fighting itself, and although it will produce cold air it will never completely cool anything but a tiny room, and even then it will need to be constantly running the compressor wasting electricity. If you have the option to get proper split AC systems installed, seriously consider this, but otherwise this is how I went about it:I live and work in a flat that I know is going to get very hot the summer and decided I wanted AC, but this kind of unit is the only one available to me as I cannot get proper units installed (rental). Therefore I went into this knowing I would be modifying a single hose unit into a dual hose. I will not go into all the detail of how I did the modification here, but search for "Single hose air conditioners can't cool a room - Woolie.co.uk" online, as it has some good explanations and guidance of what you need to do.I picked this unit literally just because it was the "Amazon Choice" - I wanted to know what the majority of people were getting and how easily modifiable it was. Many of the units you'll find in the listings, including this, are exactly the same "OEM" models, and I'm happy to say this one is fairly well suited to the modification. It has a good enough internal seal between the condenser and the evaporator, however I was unable to figure out how to open up the unit to check the internals for certain even after removing all visible screws, as the exterior seems to be one whole part rather than removable panels, it's probably possible but I didn't want to force my way in when it seems to be fine, however servicing in the future is a consideration. One note is that this unit does not come with a window kit suited to the most common casemate windows in the UK. I'd recommend one of these (that supports two hoses) as you want a fairly good seal from the outside. You want to restrict the possibility of the intake pulling from your inside air and you absolutely don't want the exhaust coming back inside.I have not tested in properly hot weather yet but in my initial testing with my modifications I'm very impressed by the performance. I found all of my 17m squared room cool to the touch in around 40 minutes when the compressor stopped running, it runs at about 1000watts when cooling. There is a single motor that runs both the fans for the condenser and the evaporator. As such it's quite high powered at 100w and unfortunately does not turn off when the compressor is not running, meaning you're better off manually switching of the unit to save energy when it doesn't need to cool.I don't personally have any issues with the noise the compressor or fans make. It's not quiet, but reasonable, you cannot expect a compressor to run totally silent (this is another benefit of split systems).Probably would only be unbearable if you were sitting literally right next to it or were a light sleeper (I will not be running this at night so not relevant to me).I will revisit this review come the summer for how I get on. Again I would really not recommend getting this to run as a single hose unit unless even converting it to dual hose is simply not an option for you and you *have* to have some amount of cooled air despite the waste of energy.

Great little unit

I’m really pleased with this little air con unit. Great value for money. Just in time for the next heat wave. Great delivery tracking. Delivered on time.It cools my 7x6m lounge very effectively. Nice small size. I think the noise level isn’t too bad and I would be able to sleep with it on in the room.
