A reading staple!
I was at my wits' end trying to teach my child to read with other methods. Nothing seemed to work. Then, a friend told me about Hooked on Phonics. I decided to try it and purchased it for my son a few years ago. After just a month, he was reading with ease. Impressed with the results, I recently bought Hooked on Phonics to teach my daughter to read. So far, she has made remarkable progress! Hooked on Phonics is definitely the reading staple I use. The videos are so easy to watch that it's hardly possible not to get caught up in the fun. Before I know it, I'm singing along to the catchy tunes and joining in.

Grandson loves it.
We have a three year old grandson and he now knows his alphabet forwards and backwards and can give us the letter and how they sound. When we start the DVD his face lights up. The music is great as it goes through the letters. He shows us the letters that are on the playing cards that come with the set as they are shown on the screen. He is learning at his own speed, he picked up the work book on his own and brought it over to us and explained the letters, the sound, and the word associated with each letter. He has expanded his vocabulary tremendously. OK Grandpa's and Grandma's, it is time for you to enjoy those kids as we have enjoyed ours in helping them learn and have fun at the same time. At three years old, he is ready to read. Enjoy.

Distracted children love this
My 4 year old is a little slower than other kids her age. She hasn't even attempted to begin singing her abc's and she doesn't have much of an attention span. It is hard because her older brother was able to write his name and read easy words by the time he was her age. I decided to see what I could to to help her get a start. This was my 4th attempt at finding something that will work, and it does. Kind of. I am happy to announce, she is finally singing her abc's. Unfortunately, she says lmnop as lominom pee and laughs because it sounds funny. BUT she is trying. I would have given this product a full 5 stars if it had a little more too it. The books that are included are not for beginning readers. They have big words and long sentences. A beginner needs smaller words and helpful photos. The DVD on the other hand is 5 stars, and I would reccomend that to anyone. The flash cards that come with it, I already have and I was hoping that there would be sight word flashcards... but they were just abc's like the 6 sets I have already. They aren't helpful at all. The DVD alone though is worth the money I put into it since it did get her at least interested. I just put in an order for the level 2 Pre-K pack. I hope the flash cards with it are better. This seems to be the way to help distracted children that have been marked as 'slower than other children' by her doctors. They told me she might not figure it out until she was much older. :) She will prove them wrong.

The best Letter Pronunciation Guide I have found is Teach Your ...
Unfortunatelyny letters are pronounced incorrectly. The best Letter Pronunciation Guide I have found isTeach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons Paperback by Siegfried Engelmann. This is extremely important when you start to blend soundsAn example would be "mat".The INCORRECT sounds would be "muh" + "a" + "tuh".The CORRECT sounds would be "mmm" +"aaa" +"t"(whispered).First we say it slow... mmmmaaaaat.. Then we say it fast....mat.It would be great if HOP used proper sounds and emphasize which sounds are VOICED and WHISPERED(examples: f, h,p,t).90% of the English language is lowercase - this is what should be taught, not uppercase.

I'm glad I bought it.
I was teaching my daughter ABC's from books and she would not focus then I started searching for different books and I came across Hooked on Phonics. I read reviews and I liked what I read. The book has an online activities which was a plus, then I decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did. We studied for a week, one hour a day and she learned the alphabet very quick. She recognizes the letters. I posted on youtube a video of her if you want to see a little bit of our experience. https://youtu.be/gtyAMc5fNlAI highly recommend!!!

A good program!
My preschooler is really enjoying this program! The workbook has been great for him to practice writing the letters. And he loves the dvd and all of the songs for each letter. It is really helping him learn each letter and the sound each letter makes. I am glad we bought it!
