Listen…when it comes to cast iron, Lodge is the name, making quality cast iron is their game! Period. End of story. So, this seasoned cast iron casserole dish? Whew—just chef’s kiss! This dish is solid, seasoned, and ready to SLAY whatever you throw in it—lasagna, baked Mac and cheese, roasted veggies, cobblers…you name it! The heat retention is insane (like cook-evenly-every-time insane), and it keeps food warm for longer than any of my other pans. Not to mention, it just looks so rustic and timeless on the table. Some of the pros? Well, it comes pre-seasoned (although I suggest you still wash it and season it again upon arrival. I will give you the instructions in the “PRO-TIP” at the end, if you’re interested.). It’s also built like a tank and it cooks so evenly and keeps food hot for a long time. Further, this thing will last F O R E V E R R R R R (IF you treat it right, that is.). So, like, if you’re sleeping on this, let me wake you up! Whether you’re a seasoned home chef or just dipping in tot he world of cast iron, this casserole dish is a must-own masterpiece. Lodge=LEGENDARY. I’d recommend it any day of hot week and twice on Sunday. So, yeah, RUN, don’t walk. Your oven and your family’s tummies deserve this! The food you’ll make in this baby will be phenomenal!!PRO TIP:: Give it a little extra oiling and bake it a few times when you first get it though (if interested, I’ll tell you how below) — you’ll fall in love with the results.Use an oil with a high smoke point and that forms a good layer of seasoning, like canola oil, Crisco (vegetable shortening), or grapeseed oil. I’ve used vegetable oil too. Avocado oil, I think can be used too, but don’t quote me on that particular one as I’ve never used it. But if I take a guess, I THINK it can be.But the FIRST thing you do even before oiling it and baking it is wash it thoroughly as soon as you get it with a teeny-tiny bit of soap and hot water, EVEN IF IT SAYS IT IS PRESEASONED! But ONLY DO THIS ONCE! After this first wash, you won’t have to use soap ever again! This is to remove any of the factory residue. But you are then to dry the pan completely. Then with a think layer of oil (I pour a bit on the pan and then take a paper towel and wipe it completely with oil in all of the nooks and crannies inside and out and the handle with an even coat of whatever oil you choose to use.Place it upside down on your top oven rack and put a baking sheet (or if you want to line the bottom rack with foil you can do that instead of the baking sheet) on the bottom rack to catch the excess oil that drips off the pan.Bake this @ 450 degrees for 45 minutes to an hour. Then turn the oven off and let it cool completely inside the oven to allow the oil to set. Now, for a smoother, non-stick finish, it’s BEST to repeat this process 2 or 3 times, BUT you don’t have to. I like to though, but who knows…maybe it’s because I’m extra. Then, BOOM! Your brand new cast iron is ready to make some magic happen!! Enjoy!!

Cast Iron Cooks Best
I love this casserole dish. Lodge has a great assortment of iron pans and I think this one is one of my many favorites. I think everything taste better when using iron. The heat is retained longer than non cast iron pans. Buy one or even 2. I really think you’ll love them as much as I do.

Heavy but Versatile!
First one came inside thin cardboard box without any interior padding/packaging. The handle was thru the box & the casserole itself had a 6” long crack. It takes considerable force to crack cast iron. However, customer service was great & immediately replaced it. This one arrived in perfect condition. Very heavy (cast iron is), well-made & versatile pan. Lodge says not to use it on the stovetop. I’ve found you can bake/roast anything in it.. Casseroles, roasts, cakes, brownies, roasted veggies, etc. Love it!

It’s 9x13
A lot smaller than I thought it was. However, that was my fault for not reading the description.
