This BT1 module works as advertised

I had originally ordered and received a BT1 module from Isunrgey but I returned it for refund because it came with no instructions, no owners manual or owners guide and instalation guide. I did reach out to the seller and they sent me a small sticky note size instruction guide that had more than 7 words printed on it. After receiving this i just requested a refund and returned the item per isunegies instructions. That was on Dec 6,2024 I haven't received credit on my card as of yet, DO NOT BY ANYTHING FROM THIS SELLER. They are dishonest and should be banned from Amazon. The Renogy product I ordered to replace the crappy isunergy BT1 module was less expensive, worked much better and yes it came with detailed instructions and a multi page owners guide. Not to mention the Renogy App is much more user friendly and has much more content. Buy from Renogy, DO NOT BOTHER WITH ISUNERGY.

check the specs - there are TWO Renogy bluetooth adapters, they are not interchangeable.

NOT the same as a "2" model - the newer Renogy products take a different model. it's not really clear at first glance which one to get. good news is that I didn't waste a lot of money. I assume it would work just as well as the "2" that I did end up with, plugged into the solar charge controller.

Plug and play, makes monitoring much easier

Quick summary: this Bluetooth adapter is simple to install, configure, and use. The information it provides to a phone is very useful and much more convenient than going and looking at the charge controller.More detailed review: I have a Renogy Wanderer 10A charge controller, 50 watt panel, and a LiFePo4 battery to provide 12V power for lighting and a small fan in my shed. I wanted to be able to check on the system and verify it was working correctly without needing to go out in the shed and directly look at the controller, so I purchased this Bluetooth adapter.Connection is simple: it uses a modular connector identical to those used in landline telephones, so it’s literally plug and play.Pairing with Bluetooth on a 2020 iPhone SE is quick and easy, as is using the app. It provides all the real-time status in a convenient and useful layout. The range is enough to go about 30 feet through the shed and house walls. I did test it up to 100 feet away with no obstructions, but it was not able to communicate with my phone at that range. I suspect the range estimates are idealized and somewhat overstated.Useful feature: if the controller’s output is set to manually switch the load on and off when the Enter button is pressed, you can remotely switch the load terminals using the app.The only downsides seem to be related to my charge controller, not the Bluetooth adapter. The controller is extremely basic and doesn’t do any internal data logging or storage at all beyond saving the settings. Thus, the only information it outputs is just the real time status, which the Bluetooth adapter faithfully transmits. The app is capable of many features that this particular controller is not, such as renaming the controller and logging historical data about power generation, consumption, battery state and voltage, etc. I presume more advanced Renogy controllers would be capable of logging and sending that data, though I wish the app would hide the fields and options that the controller doesn’t support.Bottom line: if you have a Renogy controller and want to monitor it without needing to directly look at its display, this Bluetooth adapter is the way to go. In my case, the controller cost less than the Bluetooth adapter, but getting the adapter was definitely the right choice.

Good bluetooth communication with the battery monitor.

I use this on my sailboat to monitor the condition of my solar cells and battery. It tells me all the information that I need to know about the condition of my system on my cellphone.

Worthless warranty

I have a 500 watt Renogy off grid system installed in 2019 located in a barn. Panels, battery, inverter, charger, and a BT-1 plugged into the charger. The first BT-1 failed in fall 2022. Since it was out of warranty, I bought a replacement from the Renogy Store on Amazon and restored the system. In May 2023, I found the second unit to be dead. Both the power and blue tooth indicator lights were dark while the rest of the solar system was operating normally. Since the second one is only 7 months old, I tried to make a claim on the 12 month warranty by going through the support portal on the Renogy web site, as advised by the insert in the product package.Over about a week, the warranty experience went like this: I filed a ticket on their support site and included a copy of the amazon invoice. They sent some troubleshooting tips that all failed since the unit was dead. They requested a movie showing the unit with the lights out. I sent it.They could not read the first movie, so I sent it again. That one they read. They then announced the case was turned over to some internal tech staff. Then they announced they were sending a new unit and wanted me to confirm my address. Which I did. Then they announced that they only warranty units bought from their web site and would not send a replacement. They suggested that Amazon would warranty it. Really? Now, the fact it came through Amazon was clear since I furnished the invoice with the original claim. And the material in the Renogy box says I went through the correct channel. So, I told them to stop wasting my time and I would simply buy the replacement and avoid any further Renogy products in the future. They are fine with that. If you are also fine with it, buy Renogy. Me? If this 3rd BT-1 also fails, I’ll buy someone else’s charger that doesn’t need it.I have about $2k invested in Renogy products. For a $30 failed part, most sellers would simply replace it to maintain the customer relationship. Not Renogy. For about $30 I got to see how they really operate, which in my book is a pretty good trade.
