Awesome addition for all Canon M series cameras!
I have the Canon M50 mirrorless camera. Canon’s dedicated lenses for the camera though well made, are limited in some ways, most notably but their relatively slow apertures. That hasn’t stopped me enjoying them, but I was hoping Canon would bring something new out. Sigma have beaten them to it, and then some!I already own the 16mm sigma AF DC DN lens and thats amazingly sharp and crisp. The 56mm is just as good. Given the APS-C element and the canon 1.6 crop factor the 56mm becomes effectively a 90mm F/1.4 lens, which is great as a dedicated portrait lens. It’s the main reason I bought this lens and I have used it a few times already and it does not disappoint. It’s a great ‘low light’ beast, yet, its physical form is so deceptively small (especially compared to its 16mm sister)The build quality is excellent too, it doesn’t feel ‘plastic’ at all. It forms part of their contemporary lenses family as denoted by the little silver ‘C’ on the camera body. I have been fortunate to use several sigma Art lenses, the big brothers of the contemporary line and I can tell you, the quality and build of the contempory lenses is just as good. This lens is bitingly sharp with excellent contrast. The auto focus is just as good, in my opinion, as the dedicated Canon lenses I have, I havent noticed any reduced speed at all.If you are in the market for a new lens for your Canon M series camera, thats not going to break the bank, that will actually out perform the canon lenses for the M series, then you definitely should consider this lens.Finally... Image Stabilisation. No, this camera doesnt have it. The camera body has internal IS which can be switched on. Bloggers wouldn’t generally use this lens to vlog with anyway unless you were using it to get some awesome b-roll. If you were looking for that, then consider a gimbal, or simply learn to use the lens better. It’s definitely doable without IS with this lens.

Just perfect!
After using the perfect lens, I discovered that I actually didn't need to go into much details from reviews and the likes! It's just perfect, you just connect it to the camera body and you don't need anything else from set-up or trying to find the perfect shot, as it's always there with no hassle. The weight is appropriate and I can't be bothered by it.The focus is excellent, maybe not the fastest but it's still great.Enjoy the lens and the image quality. The build materials are also very good. It looks beautiful on the camera and it costs reasonably.

Superb - gotta have it!
Has quickly become one of my most used lenses, and brilliant especially for indoor events and concerts. Sharp wide open, though better stopped down a notch or two as the depth of field is very shallow at f/1.4. Sharper at f/1.8 than the Olympus 45mm, and to my eyes better, richer, nicely saturated colour rendition, a feature I appreciate about all the Sigma lenses I own.Getting this lens completes the Sigma fast prime trinity alongside the 16 and 30mm. All are excellent, but the 56 is the most consistent of the three - none of the slight focus hunting of the 30mm, and sharper wide open than the 16mm, as well as being the least bulky. Was thinking about getting the Olympus 75mm, but no need - the Sigma plus an old teleconverter gives me the equivalent and more in terms of reach and speed. Trust-wise, this is on a par with the Oly PRO zooms in my opinion. So if the focal length is one you can use on m43, this lens is an essential addition. Beats the Oly 45 f/1.8 hands down, and a considerable saving in weight and price over the 45 f/1.2. Massive salute to Sigma for this absolute winner.

great value , sharp and awsome portrait lens on apsc.
bought this as wanted a portrait or close to portrait focal for my sony a6400. i already had the 16mm 1.4 which i used for video and some street/landscape shots. I was not disappointed. The sigma line just impresses so much. The bokeh is just beautiful and its fantastic for low light.

Bought to go with my Olympus OM1
I am new to the micro four thirds world and have been looking at reviews. There was an article on this lens on the Olympus ‘passion’ website and I bought it on the strength of that review. Effective focal range of 112mm and as well as a fabulous ‘ fast’ lens it is super sharp and very fast to focus. The bokeh is indeed smooth and creamy making this a very complimentary portrait lens ( the main reason I bought it).Great lens and it has the Sigma name behind it.

Great little lens!
This is a superb lens for micro four thirds. The 56mm focal length equates to 112mm on full frame making this a really useful portrait lens. Build quality is excellent and it is the smallest and lightest of Sigma's f1.4 trio of lenses for mirrorless cameras, so fits nicely alongside the smaller Olympus or Panasonic lenses. However, the best thing about this lens is that it's very sharp. Even at f1.4 the central image quality is excellent; stop it down a little and it's sharp across the entire frame. I frequently use it with my Olympus 12-40 f2.8 Pro zoom to give a fast twin lens outfit covering most focal lengths for general shooting. I have quite a number of micro four thirds lenses, but this lens stands out as one of my favourites.

This Lens Is Rather Special
I bought this lens by accident (yes I know but hear me out). I was searching for the 16mm variant for my a6400 and didn't read the full title. I'm really glad I did buy this though. It's excellent for shooting interview style videos because it's zoomed in without being too much, and gives that background blur we all like so much.I took the attached image using this lens and I was about 1.5m away. I was about to send this back as an accidental purchase, but I'm so impressed with it I think I'll keep it. Either way, this is one phenomenal lens.
