Can't quite tell whether or not you're joking. Nevertheless, you have made my day. So that this is a valid answer; no, the pointer will not appear sideways on the screen unless, of course, one looks at the screen from the side.

Q: Does this mouse require a dongle, or can it connect to a computer directly via Bluetooth?

they do supply a dongle, but i'm using mine through the bluetooth on my MacBook

Q: Has anyone used this mouse for detailed cad work? ergo mice are often difficult for this purpose.

I've been using the mx vertical mouse for almost 3 years for very detailed cad work in mouse-heavy programs such as Rhino and Revit. It's really precise, although if used every day the rubber-coated surface rubbs away leaving a dip where the thumb sits. No more wrist pain though!
