Product Description Pokemon: Lucario and the Mystery of MewThe world of Pokémon has many legends, but the people of Cameron Palace believe in one very special tale: the legend of the Aura Guardian. Long ago, a hero and his Pokémon, Lucario, saved the world from destruction--but can it be true? Ash and his friends find out for themselves when Lucario is awakened and Pikcahu disappears! With Lucario's help, Ash sets out on a journey to find Pikachu, a journey that leads him to a mystical tree and the Legendary Pokémon mew! The future of a world and the fate of Ash and Pikachu will depend on the power of friendship between humans and Pokémon!]]> .com Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, the eighth Pokémon movie, ranks as one of the best features in this popular franchise. Director Kunihiko Yuyama and writer Hideki Sonoda sensibly keep the adventures and threats to a scale that's appropriate for the characters. (The first movies put the world at risk, and while Ash Ketchum is a good kid, he's not someone who can credibly save the planet.) Ash, Brock, Max, and May journey to Cameron Palace for a tournament that celebrates the valor of Prince Aaron, who saved the realm from destruction 1,000 years ago. Ash and Pikachu win, but the mischievous Mew kidnaps Pikachu, whom he's befriended. Prince Aaron's Pokémon companion Lucario awakens from the victor's staff to lead Ash and the gang to the Tree of Beginning, a mountain that is also a living entity. Ash risks his life to rescue Pikachu, proving the depth of their friendship to Lucario. The film includes lots of CG effects, most of which work well with the drawn animation: the earlier Pokémon films tended to look like two different movies spliced together. The two-disc set also includes The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon: A 10th Anniversary Special. In this 40-minute adventure, Dr. Yung invites Misty and Ash to take part in a special tournament on his new battle system. Yung creates formidable Mirage Pokémon from raw data, culminating in a super-version of Mewtwo, the powerful psychic Pokémon from the first features. Once again, friendship and kindness triumph over greed and arrogance, although the special ends with the words, "To be continued..." Reeeeeeeeeeegirocku!
Out of all the Pokemon movie, the first, seventh, and this one are my favorites.Lucario is a very confused Pokemon. There is a war going on, and just as things start to get bad, they get worse. His truster partner and master, Aaron, suddenly turns on him and seals him within a strange staff (Substitute for a pokeball?) Centuries later, this anubis-like Pokemon isawakened once more. One of the greatest things about this movie is the character development. Ash is extremely likeable, and he is presented as a very realistic character, down to earth, but still the good old Ash we all know and love. Still the naive kid who was good enough to jump between the battle of two psychic super-kitties, to save a group of pokemon, clones and originals. (I'm refrencing the First Movie, if you can't tell)Also, I very much enjoyed the conversations between Ash and Lucario, especially the one where Lucario and Ash begin to argue, which escalates into a fist-fight. (I saw Ash tackle Lucario, and I was all..."OMG, Ash, that was awesome!)Kidd was also another likable character, her voice-actor is very talented! Her two pokemon, both of the Weavile species, were funny too.Lucario was great character, very interesting and deep, with the confusion , anger, and sadness of Mewtwo, the honor of Lugia, and the awesomeness of Regirock all combined. Oh yes, I might as well explain Regirock, and the title of the review.Regirock is now practically one of my favorite Pokemon thanks to this movie. Mainly because...of his voice. Regirock had, quite simply, the awesomest voice ever known to Pokemon-kind. It sounds a little soemthing like this, "REEEEEEEEEEEGIROCKU! Beep-beep-bee-bee-beep- BWOH-Oh-Oh-Oh-OH!!!!! Beep!" Okay, that was a stupid imitation, but just watch the movie, and be amazed. The Regi Trio was actually rather creepy, and Regirock's sudden explosion into the movie (Literally) Surprised me. Here I am, watching the movie, all of a sudden Lucario gets very still, sensing soemthing, out of nowehere this...this THING jumps out of some rocks and screams, " REEEEEEGIROCKU!" At me. Awesome. The Regi's keep their Japanese voices. I loves his voice, so obviously, I had to title my review after him......What?... why are you looking at me like that? (Yes, I am lame enough to devote an entire paragraph to how awesome Regirock's voice is. Geek and proud 2 be 1.)The plot of the movie is very original, and I enjoyed this movie immensly. Mew was also an awesome addition. Mew had a very important role in the story, and was just as adorable as she was in the first movie. I'm a sucker for flying pink kitties. And Regirock. Like I said, I'm a geek.I suppose this is all I really have to say on the subject. On a completely random note, Regice's voice is creepy. It gets all high-pitched, going, "Regice-Re-Regice" Then, when it gets mad it's all, "REEEEEGIIIICEEEE!" And then, in one seen only when it got VEEERY mad, it goes into this low, scary, robot-ish, "Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeegiiiiiiiiiiiiice...." O_o...Yeah...Before I start imitating Regirock again, let's end this review, shall we?Adios, and watch this awesome movie!

One interesting monster
If there's one thing I think has always worked for the Pokemon movies, it's their multiple introductions. For instance, Lucario and the Mystery of Mew starts with some historical background on Lucario, and his separation from his trainer. After this intro, there's the title intro, followed by an introduction to Ash and his friends as they enter their next adventure. It seems that Lucario has passed his animosity towards his former trainer onto Ash, who has a similar aura. But, he has to team up with Ash in order to retrieve Pikachu, who's been abducted by Mew.For the rest of the story, you'll have to watch the movie, or read someone else's review. One thing I'll say about Lucario is that there's something about him that reminds me of a character from a Sega game. Color him red, and you'll know what I mean. I think that's why I find him so interesting. This package comes with another movie on a separate DVD, Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon. This is another movie where we get to see Mew again, as well as Mewtwo. I'm not sure why this is, but they have a whole new cast of voice actors for this movie. Even Misty, who makes an appearance in this movie, has a different voice. Those who are used to Ash, Brock, Max, May, Professor Oak, Jessy, James, Meowth, and Misty from earlier movies and episodes, such as I am, will wonder why their voices have changed so suddenly in Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon. For the familiar element of adventure, this isn't a bad movie. It's just strange to have Ash not sounding like Ash.I, for one, would definitely recommend Lucario and the Mystery of Mew over Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon, if for no other reason than familiarity with the voices. And, in my opinion, Charizard looks really neat dressed in red armor, as does Blastoise in blue. But, I have to admit, I wonder why they don't have short movies with the main ones like they did up until Jirachi Wish Maker. I suppose, after Gotta Dance, they wore out their welcome. Too bad.

THE BEST IN THE POKEMON MOVIE FRANCHISE!
I was blown away by this fantastic animated movie. I have been a longtime Pokemon fan since the late 1990s and I love this series. the movies were good too. This is the absolute best film in the franchise and also, one of the best animated movies ever made. The animation is first rate, the acting by the cast here is excellent, and the story is ingenious. I love it. Too bad this was the last one that the original voice cast got to do. When the crappy new dub that was used for the movie on disc two called Mastermind Of Mirage Pokemon was introduced, everything related to it (season 9 and on, plus the next film and probably the next) became unwatchable. I would recommend the whole series up to season 8 (season 8 was the last series with the original vocal cast) and all the movies with the original cast. They are great. Until season 9 and on or any new Pokemon movie brought to America is redubed with the great original cast (Veronica Taylor, Rachel Lillis, Eric Stuart, Maddie Blaustein, etc) they will not get a view from me. Once again, see this movie, and be blown away.

Great movie as always. Though sad transition period.
I love both the movie and the 10th anniversary special. I think the animation is very well done, the story is terrific, and the characters are just so memorable. For any fan of the show whether from the past to the present I'm sure that they'll enjoy both the movie, and the 10th anniversary episode. I give this review a 4 star rating only to state that for the special anniversary episode I wish that the original voices were present on the re-recorded version just to say farewell as this would've been their last special episode before leaving the show.

It is definitely worth watching.
Possibly one of the best Pokemon movies in a long while, along with one of the worst TV specials ever...The 2-disc collectors edition brings you Lucario and The Mystery of Mew, an excellent movie that starts out in a time of war in an age before pokeballs. The skips foreword to a more present point in time, where a survivor of the war emerges and a new adventure begins with Ash and friends. Overall I would say that the movie is presented well and the plot was pretty well written compared to some Pokemon Movies. It is definitely worth watching. As for the 2nd disc... Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon was the very first presentation featuring an all-new voice cast of the Pokemon series. The plot is very thin... A holographic system that can project Pokemon with no weaknesses and unbelievable power has been created, and someone has decided to use this to try and take over the world and Ash and friends need to stop this threat. As someone who has played the Pokemon games for a long time and seen what people can do with cheating devices, this entire episode feels like a What-If scenario where someone applied such a device to the anime show.In addition, the voice acting is a huge adjustment for anyone who is has followed Pokemon from the very beginning. Pokemon Company claimed to have used sound-alike(s) for the vocie cast, but some are nothing like their original counterparts. The episode was quite controversial when it first aired, commemorating Pokemon's 10th Anniversary. Backlash from the fanbase over what was horrible voice acting even caused Pokemon Company to re-dub the episode! This box set includes the re-dubbed version, so it is an improvement over the original airing. As far as I know, this box set is the only way to pick up a copy of Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon, so if you are someone looking for a full and complete collection, I would recommend it.If you are just looking for a Mew fix, you'll be fine with the standard version of Lucario & The Mystery of Mew, and other Pokemon Feature Films.

All right movie
At first I got this movie for Mew because Mew is one of my favorite Pokemon. But now my interest shifts to Lucario who is one of my favorite furries (although at this point I put him below Renamon, Tails, and Krystal). One thing that's odd about this movie is that there's no villains, aside from Team Rocket (who don't play an antagonistic role) and the Regi's (who were defending the tree because they don't trust humans). The whole rest of the movie was sort a misunderstanding; Mew kidnapped Pikachu and Meowth, but was only protecting them from Kidd's Weavile because Mew thought they were out to hurt them when Kidd was really just trying to solve the mystery of the Tree of Beginning.I think it's ironic that of my five favorite fox furries - Fox, Krystal, Renamon, Lucario, and Tails - Lucario is the only one that comes from a series that doesn't revolve around fights to the death, and Lucario is the only one of the five that dies. Speaking of death, Jessie and James actually die in this movie (though of course they get revived soon after), showing they're not completely invincible when it comes to the supernatural.Of course I do think the "these Pokemon hate humans" cliche is overused. As to The Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon, it was all right, I didn't see the twist coming and while Pokemon and Digimon, contrary to popular belief, have little connection or similarities , they do reference each other from time to time (Mirage Mewtwo attacks like Apocalymon). The villain in this movie is pretty dark, a definite Knight of Cerebus. One thing that was cool was to see Misty and May in the same scene (did Misty ever turn up in an episode of May's generation? I kinda stopped watching before that point), although I noticed the voice acting in this movie is different.
