Superb Value For Money

The first thing I want other customers to know is: get rid of your 'this is just another piece of cheap Chinese gear' thinking, if there is any. I did not use Chinese made outdoor gear until about 2 years ago. Not that I had any reservations or anything like that. I simply did not pay attention. This bivy simply is excellent when it comes to value for money. I wish I knew. I used European brands like Carinthia, Ferrino, Tatonka: tents, backpacks and more. My last bivy tent was an Italian DefCon 5. I think I know a thing or two when it comes to bivy tents like this one. This Geer Top bivy is just as good, if not better, than all the European or American brands that I had used before. I look for room, ventilation, build quality, materials and design for a bivy tent like this one. It checks all the boxes. I dislike it for one thing only: the colour. It is not really "subdued" for evading visual detection. I hope Geer Top would have it in olive green (the "military" one) someday - just like what has been offered by brands like Snugpak for so many years.

4 out of 5

The media could not be loaded. Quality of material has held up through many setups across different terrains. Even though material does seem thin.Space… I’m 6’ 200lbs on a good day. The length of tent is fine but if trying to tuck in an extra backpack or have to reach for your feet to close or open your sleeping bag or whatever by your feet you find it hard to reach. Head room while sleeping is fine. Waste line to feet is a tight area. Width and length seem fine, could use more height.Ventilation after settling in seems fine otherwise very warm first 20/30 minutes. Use a small portable fan in pocket near head /ventilation area to help especially during summer time. I am a warm blooded person. Otherwise not to bad with just airpad and sheet.Water resistance from above is good. I sprayed scotch guard for water repellant after first uses just as additional protection. But handled short light rain periods fine but heavy rain it did not until spraying additional water guard above. If ground saturated it seems to eventually soak through bottom like condensation. Use a cutout garbage as barrier and works good. If humid or rained there is condensation inside of tent which was always normal tent camping in my experience.Overall probably is good as any other portable tent /bivy I’ve used. Biggest issues is space for reaching near mid waist to feet area otherwise is good.

Awesome Bivy

Day 7 in the field zero complaints. I bought silicone spray and sprayed it twice (drying in between sprays). Heavy rain two days later bivy stayed completely dry. Not sure I needed to do that just an extra precaution I guess. I needed small, light weight and durable and got all three. If you’re claustrophobic don’t buy it, if you’re gonna complain there’s moisture build up and you keep the bivy completely closed up- don’t buy it, key word hasty. Buy a regular tent if those apply. If you need fast shelter, on the move, light weight, plenty of leg room (I’m 5’11” 190) and wide enough you don’t touch the sides this is ideal. It has pockets at the head for say a little mag light, cell phone, glasses etc. The foot end of the bivy has enough space you can take your boots off and store them there out of the elements. This is perfect for a bug-out bag or if your military in a unit where they don’t force you to use the “issue shelter”. Ok the moisture part- sleep with the screen zipped and the tent unzipped. You may get some moisture but nothing like what you’d get with no air coming in if it’s cool out. If it’s cold out and you didn’t bring enough clothes or a sleeping bag zip it up, deal with the moisture and you’ll at least be warm. You’ll still be dry and bugs won’t be on you, my two important factors. Anyway, great price, extremely happy with the bivy and at a fair price. Fast shipping. Hope this helps.

fits a niche that doesnt really solve any sleeping needs

I took this on a camping trip backpacking in the mountains. The first issue was that the poles are sized a little long so it was difficult to fit in my bag, any way but vertical in the main pouch. It happened to rain quite a bit on the trip and I assumed that this tent would keep the rain out, but it did not. My entire sleeping bag as well as anything in the tent got wet. The rain seems to sit on top and slowly drip through the material, most of which happened to be directly above my head between the crossed tent poles. It was like getting water tortured with it dripping on my face all night. This could have been solved with buying and applying DWR spray or putting a tarp tented over the bivy tent, but at that point, why not just sleep in a bag under a tarp tent? There is no way to close the air vents on cold nights (not that this tent is thick enough to be warm anyways), as the fly above the vents must be pulled taught to give the tent form. There is also not enough room to get to your foot area (to adjust sleeping bag zipper, etc.) without opening a majority of the top of the tent. Which isn't an issue until the weather outside the tent becomes bad. It made me wonder why I picked this in-between sleeping solution over a traditional tent or just a bivy sack. All in all, this is a decent tent for dry, warm weather camping, if this design is what you are looking for. Based on material thickness and quality, this tent should be in the $40-50 range. This isn't a tent I would rely on in rugged conditions again. For me, it didn't fit in my Eberlestock bag anywhere I wanted to put it and I would have been better off just taking a tarp and some paracord to pitch overhead of a nice sleeping bag. From sizing to comfort, it just doesn't do anything well and is mediocre at best on everything in a design that doesn't really fulfill any needs. If this was waterproof and packed down smaller I would forgive more of its flaws.
