Quality Ink

This is my favorite drawing ink! have used this ink for years and have never had an issue with mold. My guess is that the reviewers bottle was contaminated in production or in their use. I use a clean dropper to dispense it into my ink wells and add water to establish values. I never pour the used ink back into the bottle. My current bottle is several years old. I love this ink for its depth and layering.

Good stuff

Hard to find out in the wild so I am happy that I found it here.

which is a good thing. Walnut ink is acidic and will damage ...

This is not intended for fountain pens. It's not intended for calligraphy. It's not intended to be waterproof. As it clearly states on the label this is drawing ink. It is also NOT made from walnuts, which is a good thing. Walnut ink is acidic and will damage paper over time. This does not. Walnut ink is fugitive, meaning it will fade over time. This does not. Those are benefits, not detractions. As the drawing ink that it is intended to be, this is really good stuff! It has great watercolor qualities. You can lay down washes that give the drawing a warm sepia look, as though it were done centuries ago. It layers nicely and lifts nicely and I can do very fine lines with it. If you do drawings with dip pens or ink washes, this is highly recommended. Look elsewhere for fountain pens and calligraphy ink.As an addendum to this I see the prices of this starting to climb. Not sure it's worth what they are asking for it, even as much as like it. I can buy a couple of tubes of very good artist grade sepia watercolor tubes for the same price and accomplish the same work (I know because I've tried it) and come up with a lot more than 2.6 ounces. ($14.02 from this seller as I write this). Seriously, what's with the greed? Shop around!

Surprisingly beautiful walnut color...

What a surprise to open this bottle and use my dip pen...A beautiful warm walnut color to work with a wash to creat a nice monotone sketch. I think I've gone through a few top brand color inks in the brown category and never felt happy with the image I want- other than pen/ink sketches in black.I look forward to my experiences with the Tom Norton Walnut.

Weak colour

The colour is weak. It is overwhlmed by other colours. I saw someone using walnut ink and tried it. Will not buy again.

All in the view of the Artist :)

I love sketching with pens so I tried this ink in all of my pens (fountain and rapidograph). And i have to say this ink is far too light for a fine point nib. It'll have to be medium to bold point.Does not work very well in a fountain pen, at least I don't think so. It comes out far too light and doesn't run smoothly. I added a couple drops of black in to a converter full of the walnut and it was a little better but *shrugs* I've quenched my curiosity. As far as a brush goes it works Great. Its like coffee but with this ink you can make a wash after it dries unlike coffee. If you're a brusk sketcher you'll LOVE this product.I'm still exploring what it can do and how many different ways I can use it :) So i don't feel like i totally wasted my money.I do recommend trying it :)

Excellent

Excellent. My go to walnut ink for pointed pen calligraphy is Daniel Smith. While Daniel Smith is good, Tom Norton is also very good. Without adding water or gum arabic, I was able to use as is. If you want to water down the sepia tone then you should add a few drops of gum arabic too to ensure proper flow. Only thing, that's better in Daniel Smith is wide mouth container so you can use it directly from it. For Tom Norton, you have to pour it out in a dinky ink container (or something else) to use it.All in all, excellent quantity and ink for the price.

Fun Ink!

I am an advanced beginner and love trying out all things calligraphy to establish my own personal preferences. So, I bought the sepia (walnut) ink to play with, and not for any "real" work like envelopes or invitations, etc. It is a quality product and so fun to write with. I understand the nib dictates how thick and thin the lines are, but this ink seems to accentuate this. I read a review that said walnut ink will mold, which makes sense for an organic based product. I don't know if this is true or not but I am trying to use up my bottle before this happens. Great product, fast shipping, easy transaction! Recommended seller-will buy from again! :0)
