Excellent high quality product so far, WAY BETTER than a brush for de-shedding. I would easily pay double the price.
I can only say I used this for one day, so this is simply an initial review. But after visiting my local pet store, (here in Arizona in the hot summer), for a rabies shot for my 2 year old Golden Retriever, I had more than a few minutes to talk to some of the staff. I have owned 2 golden retrievers in the past, and they have all had long hair. I never considered having them shaved, but I wanted to help with the shedding. I asked 3 different workers, separately, what product they would use besides a simple brush, and the answer I got was the FURminator.Besides my long hair Golden Retriever, I have 2 labs (one silver lab and one yellow lab), both of these have short hair, but they still shed quite a bit in the summer. The staff said the "long hair" version would work fine on the lab's short fur. Also, one person who works in the grooming department said she has used her FURminator for 2 years and said it will last. The pet shop charged $55 dollars and would not discount the price even after I offered to split the difference in price from Amazon ($23), so ultimately I purchased it from Amazon. The bottom line: The initial quality is exceptional, the handle is solid and weighty...it is not cheap plastic. I got the Medium size for Long hair and it works fine to get in and around curved areas on all my 3 dogs (the Wide size has a wider head). Only my oldest lab (6 years old) would sit still to be brushed with a regular brush to help with the shedding. BUT, ALL 3 of my dogs seemed to really like this product. It was an OBVIOUS improvement over a brush! My advice on how to use: Get a chair, a bucket, and of course the dog. Use small strokes around a certain area and it took me about 4 to 5 strokes to "fill up" the trimming end, and then you simply press the . You will be amazed at how quickly and easily it removes fur from the undercoat. It's really satisfying to know that your pet enjoys this (my oldest lab REALLY knows this is helping to make him cooler), and when I do the younger dogs they enjoy it also, but he tries to "bud in" for more.I took me about 10 to 20 minutes to do each dog, and mostly they are happy to be groomed this way. When you finish, you will absolutely notice that their fur is smooth and silky to the touch. I can't say if it will significantly decrease the amount of shedding yet, but I can't imagine it won't...TOTALLY worth it so far!

This brush is fantastic!
My long haired Miniature Australian Shepard is not one to take a liking to being brushed. However, he does not mind being brushed with the FURminator at all. This makes it a painless chore for the both of us! He always likes to sleep on cool tile or over air vents. I always felt badly because I knew he was warm even in the cool air conditioning. Now that his coat is thinner, he snuggles on the couch more often and isn't waiting for the air to kick on. This is all thanks to the FURminator! For the longest time Odin never had a shedding problem, but this past winter was a rough one and he grew a very thick coat. When the warm weather rolled around, my dog started to shed quite a lot. It is safe to say, the hair was everywhere! Unfortunately, he does not shed in clumps like most long haired dogs do. His long hairs would be stuck in my clothes, blankets, and the carpet.I have tried many other combs and brushes, but none of them work as well as the FURminator. The brush gets deep into his undercoat to break up any loose hairs. He does not seem to mind the FURminator at all! The brush is made of strong, durable plastic and comes with a protectant shield for the metal bristles. This will allow you to toss it into a dog bin that is filled with combs, leashes, and collars without bending or damaging the small metal bristles. I cannot tell you how much less my little furry friend is shedding. I went from vacuuming every day to nearly twice a week. I used to brush him with a regular dog brush that had metal bristles on one side and soft bristles on the other, but I am never going back! With my old brush, I needed to brush him daily to maintain a well groomed coat. However, now I only need to use the FURminator two to three times a week to keep his hair off my clothes, rugs, and furniture.I have seen a big change in how long he can withstand being outside in the warm weather because I have removed a good amount of his excess hair. He does not overheat nearly as fast and can play nearly twice as long without being too hot. He has been a very happy dog!

So. Much. Fur.
I have never owned dogs before and adopted two senior rescues about 4 months ago. They are both small (7 & 9 lbs) with short, dark hair. As summer came around and it started to get hot my old guy started shedding a ton and I was finding his short little hairs EVERYWHERE. About a month ago I purchased a larger but well rated animal brush that was about half the price of this brush. It worked okay but it just didn’t seem to help reduce their shedding around the house. It sat around never getting used after that. Deciding I needed a better brush for the littles, I looked around a bit and decided on the FURminator (size extra small) due to all the positive reviews as well as having seen it mentioned positively in reviews for other brushes.I was not disappointed! My little guy who is about 7lbs was enjoying the brushing so much he started to doze off... fighting sleep like a toddler, he lost the battle and happily slept through about an hour or so of me brush/petting him. Did I need to brush for an hour? Not at all, but he was happy and relaxed and I wasn’t doing anything besides avoiding other household chores and watching TV, so it wasn’t much effort to keep going - plus I was figuring out how to effectively brush him for future groomings. I was immensely satisfied with the result! So much hair removed so easily! Even now a few days later, both my husband and I have noticed he’s shedding less when we pet him and his coat also feels softer, noticeably less hair being shed on his blanket as well. I will absolutely buy a second one and will recommend this brush for anyone with animals.(Image included is just from 1 grooming, the pile is in the shape of a cup since that’s where I was putting the hair I removed from the brush.)
