What is kazoo? The familiar sound of pitched buzzing comes from a popular american toy and musical instrument called a kazoo. Children and adults alike hum into this small, handheld object that produces a buzzing quality through a vibrating membrane that is activated by the player's voice. Pitch and volume are controlled by the person doing the humming. A kazoo is a bit like a simpler, childhood version of a harmonica in that its construction is simple and small. You may remember having a kazoo once upon a time, but perhaps you have forgotten how to play it. Adults and children alike can enjoy playing this pocket-sized instrument. Being able to hum in tune can come in handy, for instance, you can hum your way to high scores in musical games and impress all your friends. Any amount of musical exposure will have its benefits, and a kazoo is one of the easiest instruments to pick up and explore your own musical abilities. How kazoos work a kazoo works by producing a buzzing sound, usually via a piece of wax paper that vibrates in a hole at the top of the instrument when someone vocalizes through it. Because kazoos make music using vibration from a membrane, or a thin, taut layer of material, they are technically considered "membranophones "and are thus in the same instrument class as drums. However, you have probably never heard of a drum with a mouthpiece because no such drum exists. The kazoo is a unique instrument no matter how you look at it.
