Ideal for short camping trip

Perfect size for a weekend camping trip and better than expected. The bottle is far stronger than I thought it would be

Extremely well made.

Wanted one since i nearly set myself on fire topping up my old trangia meths burner, back drafted into the glass bottle.I am prone to stupidity and general physical endangerment. Big money for a bottle, but skin grafts and hospital stays are more expensive.Have tested it, works as described. Idiot proof.

Well constructed lightweight fuel bottle

A nice sized, well constructed, fuel storage bottle. Holds 1/2 litre of fuel..an ideal amount for a one/two man short trip, however for longer camping adventures or excessive cooking would not be sufficient.Pros;1/ lightweight plastic that is rigid and feels really strong.2/ Clear markings to indicate its contents3/ Easy pour spout (x2) that prevents any spillage of fluid4/ A well constructed, no leak, screw lid.5/ An easy to use open/close mechanism...a rotating collar (screws up or down) that allows or prevents depressing the spring loaded plunger.6/ A nice size to fit into any number of outer rucksack pockets.Cons;1/ After dispensing there remains a small amount of fuel within the spouts that must be shaken out before putting the bottle away.2/ Some may consider expensive for a plastic bottle.3/ May prove to be too small for longer trips with flamboyant cooking activity. Please refer to photos.

Good, but watch out for the spurty spout!

These bottles are a good idea in principle, and definitely designed for use with the Trangia type mini alcohol stoves. The idea is that one unscrews the little round collar on the spout, and then pour the liquid in a controlled flow into the stove by pushing a little trigger (button) on the top.In reality they aren’t as good as the concept promises. For example there are two spouts for convenience, yet if there is a pressure build up in the bottle, when you open the trigger to pour downwards, the alcohol spurts out of the top spout momentarily and soaks your palm. I’ve had this happen on a number of occasions and it’s blimmin annoying! Also the bottle is made of a rather thin, almost see thru plastic material, which I get is to do with lower weight for campers and hikers and whatnot. The material just feels a bit flimsy for the price paid, and the dodgy plastic trigger head contraption doesn’t exactly feel like it’s built to last a lifetime.I actually bought it to be a reserve petrol can to carry on a motorcycle, but it would be painfully slow to empty the whole litre into the tank using the trigger thing, along with the chance of a hand covered in spurted petrol 😕For this purpose I can’t recommend this bottle, a more sturdy aluminium one with a basic sealed screw down wide neck lid would suit better.I use mine with methanol now when filling little home methanol heaters. The slow flow and trigger control work quite well for this task, I just pump the button once with my hand well clear in case of a pressure release.

My go to non-pressurised fuel bottle.

I consider these Trangia bottles to be a godsend for liquid fuels and have used them for years. The spout system gives excellent control for pouring and prevents spillages when used with appropriate care. The plastic bottle is strong, thick walled and more than bomb proof enough to go into a bergen or other bag without worrying about it being crushed or punctured. It is a bit unnerving when opening the cap when it is tight and it can feel like it might not be strong enough for the twisting forces. But I have had no issues. Like anything else, just don't force it beyond what it can likely handle. The pouring spouts enable precise pouring into tight fuel reservoirs, like you might find on some stoves or lanterns. While letting the liquid run at just the right pace to fill your stove (or whatever) but still maintaining control. You inevitably end up with a drip or two due to the nature of the system. But this is minor and considerably better than having fuel run down the bottle sides as what often happens with other fuel bottles. The cap has a loop for hanging. To be frank, I would not trust it for hanging a full bottle. However, it is perfect for attaching a small silicone funnel via mini carabiner. Making it quite easy to return unused and cooled fuel to the bottle. The rubber seals keep the contents where it needs to be and I have had no leaks whatsoever. At 500ml, the ones I use can seem a little small for more than a couple of days of camping, but they are slender, so packing a few into a bag is no problem if you feel the need. I like the smaller ones as I find them very versatile whether I'm out for the day or a bit longer. There is always the 1L option if you need it.I have used one for the last twelve years to carry methylated spirit and it has never let me down. I also recently purchased another to carry paraffin and it does just as well with that also.

Why did I not buy this years ago?

After years of using a meths bottle I finally invested in one of these and wish I had done so years ago. It makes it so much safer and is so easy to use

Solid, leakproof spirit bottle

It's recommended as Duke of Edinburgh kit for a reason. The bottle is well made and solid. It's not too heavy, even when full of spirit fuel. The safety valve is a two stage process. The red knob on top is twistable. Turn it anti-clockwise to open the valve. Then, when you're ready to dispense, simply push the red cap down to release the fuel. When you release the cap, the fuel flow stops. The funnel is bi-directional, so either end will dispense the fuel (the other end then acting as a vent to allow smooth operation). Turn the red cap clockwise to then completely seal the fuel in the bottle. It's a great design. You might get some residual fuel in the funnel causing a little smell, but this will dissipate over time. All in all, a great product, fit for purpose and good value for money.
