A Total Game-Changer Once You Make the Switch to Pellets
I absolutely love the concept of this Arm & Hammer sifting litter box with the double pan and sifter system. At first, I used it with traditional clumping litter, and as expected, it created quite a mess. The litter would get stuck in the sifter, clogging up the holes and making it hard to clean. I found myself scraping off the sticky parts and having to wash the trays thoroughly between uses. Once washed, you also have to let everything dry completely before refilling with fresh litter—so it wasn’t quite as “effortless” as I hoped in the beginning.I keep the box inside a furniture-style litter enclosure to help contain the smell, reduce litter scatter, and keep the area visually tidy. But the real magic happened after reading through some of the customer reviews. That’s where I discovered the golden tip: switch to pellets. After seven years of dealing with the usual cat litter chaos, the comments pointed me toward a completely different experience. I switched to pellets, and it changed everything. No more clogged sifter, no more gritty litter tracked across the floors, and shockingly less odor. At first, my cats were a little confused—giving me that look like, “What is this?”—but they quickly adapted. Ever since making the switch, my entire litter routine has been easier and cleaner. My one and only complaint, which isn’t really the fault of the box itself, is that I wish it were a bit taller. One of my cats—who’s truly a menace to society—stands up when she pees and shoots it straight out the back. Thankfully, because of the way I’ve set everything up inside a larger enclosure, the pee hits the plexiglass backing and drains neatly into the box below. It’s a wild workaround, but it works. This system, combined with the right type of litter and a little creative setup, has completely changed the game for me as a multi-cat household. I’d highly recommend this sifting box to anyone—as long as you pair it with pellets.

Perfect for the Pine pellets and sifting
Great deal for these. You get two bottoms and a sifter. I use them for the pine pellets from Tractor Suppy. I put the sifter backwards so there is a gap between the bottom of the sifter and the bottom pan. This way, I shake the whole thing and dissolved pellets sift to the bottom. I only use one of the two bottoms. When cleaning, I shake while holding the top sifter high a bit to create more space between the top and bottom, to get the pee dust through to the bottom. Then place the sifter with now just whole pellets on another pan while I dump and rinse the bottom. Scoop poop from the top sifter. Been using these for 10+ years. I scrub them weekly and because i have extra bottoms, they are great for extra pans to have. I have 9 cats, the largest is 12lbs the size is perfect for them. There is a stainless steel version of these I plan on migrating to, that has a larger gap between the top sifter and bottom pan. For now, these are great.

Almost there, but not quite
I purchased this to use with pellet litter. My kitty is a litter kicker, so I had to purchase two cat boxes (the other by the same company that doesn’t sift, but has a side extender). The extender doesn’t fit quite perfectly, but it will do. This is the best I have found for the small spaced enclosure that my cat has. It isn’t without fault though. There is no space between the sifting bin and the solid bin. I have rigged it up about an inch or two with some pipe insulation. This is an okay solution, but not ideal. I would like to get it even higher so that I don’t have to change out the bottom liner (I line the solid box and then toss it when it’s full - makes for easier clean up) as often. I may try to get some 1x4 pieces to place under the liner on the edges of the bottom of the pan to make more space. Again - it’s not ideal, but it does a good job of keeping the pellets in and letting me sift the sawdust out. I have yet to find the perfect pellet cat box that is less than 20” in length.

Best boxes to use for pine pellets!!!
I use horse pine pellets from the feed supply store as litter. It's the best and cheapest litter I've found yet. Sifting boxes are the only way to go. I *LOVE* these boxes. You just put the sifter into an empty box, dump from the dirty box into the empty one onto the sifter, and then sift away. I pick the poop out after I do this process. You are left with the remaining clean, whole pellets, and the broken down dirty ones are sifted out. Just add more fresh pellets to top off. The one thing to note is they are a bit small, so I just use both of them set next to each other, and then consolidate to sift it out. The size is not a deal breaker at all, in fact it makes it easier to sift effectively. These boxes make a cheap litter system even cheaper. It's a game changer and I highly recommend you get it if you use pellets.
