Q: It states max length is 49", but what is the minimum length (when arm is not fully extended)?

The shortest length is shown in the pictures, looks like.

Q: What is the max weight the arm can carry?

I own 2 of these units, I don’t know what the max weight is, however I have mounted Wescott LED heads with 4 foot flash box modifiers attached, they held firm no problem. I have also mounted Profoto B1s with 48 inch modifiers again with no problem. These units are solid and mount firm. Hope this helps.

Q: can you hang a microphone from it

If you can put the microphone on a standard Light stand, you can use it on this. I have 2, but have only used it for speedlights.

Q: Can you put a dslr on it? i'm looking for an option to pull down from my wall like this for over head camera videos
