Wonderful gift for young kids
This is a unique gift. I need to warn you to time the purchase to the exact time you want it to begin. It has everything included with a really spacious tent house. It starts with a cup of food already made for the tiny worms to eat. They grow fast and go through several growth stages. Then you set up the place for them to hang upside down at the top of the tent. You watch until a butterfly emerges. Then you make the sugar water, including. They last quite a while. I ended up letting them go in my bedroom, which has several plants I keep inside. I just moved their food outside of the tent for them to find. It is sort of sad when they die. Wish they could figure out how to include the next step of laying eggs. I loved this!!!

Did this kit as a child, now again with my own kids.
I did this kit as a young child and was so excited to get to experience it with my own daughter a few decades later!!We bought it for her third birthday, and I think this was the youngest age I would do it, but she was definitely old enough to understand and enjoy.Early into starting one of our caterpillars seemed like it died, it wasn’t growing at the same pace as the others and wasn’t moving. Then days later it caught up and they all went into chrysalis. All five turned into butterflies!! The last one to emerge was especially friendly (maybe just less antsy to fly) and hung around our flowers and would let my daughter hold it.Totally magical experience for her.

If using this in your classroom, begin early enough (4 weeks, if possible).
This was wonderful! I used it with my class. The instructions and supplies made it possible for me to do this experiment without killing the caterpillars/butterflies. (I wasn't so sure I could do that). We thought the caterpillars had not made it because the cocoons looked dry/withered for days. We left them alone, though, and were all excited when we arrived at school one day to find two butterflies in the net. Then within an hour or two, another one came out. Four of the five became butterflies. I imagine the other one would have, also, but may have been harmed accidentally by students trying to observe it and mishandling the jar or net. I highly recommend this product!

Beautiful Butterflies
Amazing experience for the grandkids from the beginning until the butterflies hatch from cocoons. Everything was point on and all my cocoons hatched with BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLIES. I had 6 completed transformations. I was able to allow the grandkids to keep a day to day notes and pictures with videosThis was so well worth the price. I highly recommend this project for elementary schoolers. I’m just a grandma not a teacher but this was fun for my grandkids.

A hit with the grandkids.
I got this for my 6 and 8 year old grandkids and it was a hit. It was the first thing they checked in the morning and the last thing they checked before going to bed. They live far away so it was fun to get videos of the progress of the butterflies. They stages of the butterflies went quickly so they didn't get bored with it. It was a science lesson they will always remember.

Not as great as I thought
The set up is great and our caterpillars all made chrysalis but only two became butterflies and one has special needs, only one and a half wings

Decent, but Inconsistent
I love the idea of raising butterflies with my kids, and this set provided a good educational experience. However, I've used another company in the past and this experience was a bit mixed. The kit arrived with caterpillars of vastly different sizes, which was a bit odd. Unfortunately, two of the smaller ones didn't make it. Three quickly formed chrysalises, which was exciting for the kids. However, two others are still tiny and seem weeks away from that stage. My biggest issue was that three of the chrysalises fell from the lid of the cup within a few days. I followed the instructions and placed them on a paper towel at the bottom of the enclosure, but I'm worried they won't emerge properly. I never had this problem with the other company I used. While the concept is great and we're enjoying watching the process, the inconsistent caterpillar sizes and the falling chrysalises were disappointing. I hope the remaining caterpillars and fallen chrysalises do well, but I'm not entirely confident.

Make sure the right number caterpillars are in the package.
We purchased this butterfly kit for our granddaughter the kit was supposed to come with 5 caterpillars 🐛 but there were only 4 in the cup and only 3 are moving. So I would like to have 2 replaced so I can give a 5⭐️ review
