Great value and rugged!

Every mechanical technician I work with has the GearWrench 1-1/8" or some other brand ratcheting combo wrench as their biggest ratcheting combo wrench. Now I have this 1-1/2" ratcheting combo wrench in my tool box and I have top bragging rights. This thing is built like a tank. Beefy. I work on 138000 to 26400 volt step down transformers for an electric co-op and use this to remove the high side bushings that are mounted on top of the transformer (I use my GearWrench 1-1/8" ratcheting combo wrench to remove the low side bushings). Because of the way some bushings are built I cannot always get a straight shot with an impact gun. And Lord help you if you cross thread the nut/bolt assembly. So no more turning the nut one or two flats at a time with a standard open end wrench. This has doubled the speed of nut removal when an impact gun or manual socket cannot be used. All my combo wrenches and socket sets are GearWrench and they have never let me down.

Fits in my old GearWrench case.

Nearly 20 years ago, my dad gave me a set of GearWrench wrenches. It's a black and grey case with a red latch, in case you have the same. I opened it the other day to find my 7/16 missing. I looked around for it and got a bit brokenhearted that I couldn't find it. I'd always kept the set in good working order and have always liked the wrenches themselves. So, I bought this to replace it. I was a bit worried that they'd changed something, and I'd have this one wrench that obviously wasn't part of the set, or maybe wouldn't even fit into the little holders within, but nope; it fit perfectly and looks exactly like the others. An excellent price, too. I was very happy to have a complete set again, though I was bothered by my sentimentality over a wrench.Of course, the same day I received it, I found the other one. Now, I've two.

Not professional grade

Ratchet worn out after only a month of daily use. I bought the full set 10 years ago and it lasted this whole time, they have since been redesigned and built as cheap as possible. Because of this they have no durability anymore, may be fine for a hobbyist but not if its used daily.

Excellent!

This is so convenient and efficient to use instead of using my 3/4" drive 1-5//16" socket with a 3/4" x 1/2" adapter for my 1/2" drive ratchet. I use this tool a lot for tightening bolt up flanges. It's long enough and strong enough to give me enough leverage to provide adequate torque on the bolts. This is also a much safer tool to use than my standard ratchet with socket and adapter. Often the work space did not accommodate using a large 3/4" drive ratchet. So when using a 1/2" drive ratchet with the large socket and adapter, sometimes the socket would slip off the the bolt or nut when I applied a lot of torque because this ratchet-socket setup was extending a few inches off the flange face at a 90 degree angle. Great way to bust knuckles or slip and fall over if you weren't correctly positioned. The GearWrench allows you to apply the torque force more directly, efficiently and safer.I have other GearWrench ratcheting wrenches and they are winners! I highly recommend GearWrenches as a definite addition to your standard socket and open end box wrenches.

Big, bad wrench!

Been looking for a good 1 3/8 box wrench to remove the fork caps on my Harley-Davidson Softail for years. Most of them fit poorly, slip off easily and round the corners of the expensive and low profile fork caps. Not this baby! Not only does it ratchet, meaning you don't have to keep removing/installing it to remove the cap, but the design of the box end drives on the flank of the hex, not on the corner. For what I've paid over the years in replacing buggered up fork caps from the wrench slipping, I could have bought two of these.Unlike the smaller GearWrenches, this one doesn't have a reversing lever. You have to turn the wrench over to loosen/tighten the bolt. Because of this, the wrench has no bend or "offset" to give you hand clearance off the surface. This isn't a problem for what I use the wrench for, but it's something to consider.

Big wrench

Bought this wrench for changing oil filters in Michiana tanks on older locomotives. Ratcheting wrench is faster and easier to use than the bulky 3/4 drive ratchet my company has for us to use. Seems to be pretty well built hopefully it holds up like all of my older Gearwrench products. Time will tell. Will update the review once its used.

Great tool!

I bought the majority of the set from sears...a 20 piece (10 sae and 10 metric) for $50....what a great price! I supplemented the missing sizes from here on amazon. I haven't used every one I have bought, but the quality is on par or better with any Craftsman, Kobalt, Husky, or Dewalt box wrenches I own. I cannot compare really with any s&k, Mac, or snap on because I never felt the need to pay the high price they call for. A friend did have to bring back a gearwrench before to sears without any prob for defective ratcheting mechanism. The only con for me so far is reading the size on the smaller wrenches! Only other thing I wish they would do is mark the metric ones different from the sae, sorta like Kobalt does with the color band (even though that color band wears off), because I keep them all in a bag jumbled, to make it easier to pick out!

Exactly like OEM GearWrench set I bought 20 years ago, love it.

Perfect quality tool with beautiful chrome finish and soft feel in the hand. Works great so I bought a few more in various sizes. All were super nice.

Cant beat the original gearwrech.

I remember the days when sears first carried the original GearWrench, it was over 200$ for a basic set of SAE or Metric, but it was well worth it. The time saved, and aggravation of having to use regular wenches was worth the cost. 15 years later still the most versatile wrenches out there.

Works great

Bought it to work on my 6.0 powerstroke motor. Makes removing the oil rails much easier.
